The Giro della Sicilia 2019 will end with the classic timed trial along the Gibilmanna climb. The most difficult stage to interpret, in which the participants will start in reverse order of ranking and will play victory and placements. No cycle tour, only a 10.6 km long race against the time until 795 m height of the Sanctuary of Gibilmanna.
This year’s edition will start from the town of Cefalù, included in the UNESCO Arab Norman route, famous for its Cathedral, declared World Heritage Site, and its medieval remains, and will reach the Sanctuary of Gibilmanna consecrated to the Most Holy Virgin. Built in the Middle Ages by San Gregorio Magno at his own expense before becoming Pope, it became an important religious center renowned in the Norman period.
Along the slope you can enjoy a unique panorama, nestled between the Madonie and the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Immediately above the sanctuary it will be possible to reach the Geophysical Observatory and the peak of Pizzo San’Angelo at 1081 m s.l.m.
